Leighty Racing Sprint Car Team

Rich Leighty, Washington Econo Sprint Car Organization #11

It would be impossible to thank all the individuals who have helped Leighty Racing through the years. We say THANK YOU to all that have helped, but there are a few to which we must extend a special thank you. The people on this page have impacted Leighty Racing to such an extent that it is entirely possible that Leighty Racing would not exist today without them.

SPOON AUTOMOTIVE

Jack Johnson (crew), George Wixon (driver), Larry Spoon (owner)

Two great friends and helpers of Leighty Racing were Larry Spoon and George Wixson. Larry and George formed an almost unbeatable team at the old Elma 1/2 mile. For nearly 20 years, Leighty Racing was fortunate to be considered teammates of the Spoon Team. Larry and George became friends and mentors to Rich and later Rick. Larry helped design, build and maintain three of the Leighty cars. He patiently answered the questions and instilled a great deal of knowledge in an inquisitive, young Rick Leighty. We dearly miss both men, but know they have formed a great team at that most majestic speedway of all. Thank you, for being our friends and helping make us what we are today.

THE WALKERS

Walker Team Cars from the early '80s.

Thank you doesn't come close to being enough when it comes to Glen Walker and his son Axel. They have provided friendship, encouragement, parts, suggestions, and just about anything else you can think of for the past five decades. It has been our pleasure to race against them on the track, to bench race with them off the track, and to have our families feel a part of each others. Great friends are what it is all about.

DON SPOON III

Don Spoon III circa 1978

Another person that has helped keep the Leighty's on the track has been Don Spoon III. Don provided machine work and built some excellent power plants during the '80s. He was never to busy to answer questions, or give advice. Donny continues to be a valued friend.
