Leighty Racing Sprint Car Team

Rich Leighty, Washington Econo Sprint Car Organization #11

The car that began Rick Leighty's driving career. A Kvistad chassis originally put together by Steve Parker. Rick bought it wrecked and with the help of Larry Spoon rebuilt and updated the car from a cross spring suspension to a torsion bar rear and coil over front. Rick ran the car from 1981 to 1990 winning Elma's season championship with it in 1983.  The car was sold to Eric Lund and raced with CROW.

Leighty Racing expanded to 3 cars in 1985, when the Leighty's assembled this Kvistad chassis for longtime crew member Randy Hooper. Randy ran the car for 4 years before getting his own car that he ran out of the Leighty garage. This car was parted out.

Rick always wanted to drive one of Jerry Day's RAM Chassis. The opportunity came in 1990 when he found a never assembled kit in Henry Rodriquez's garage. Engraved on the firewall as the last RAM, Rick assembled the car and ran it for 8 seasons with WOW, NSRA, and WESCO before trading it to Axel Walker for the Sargent/Walker chassis.

Jeff Jewell drove the Leighty Racing #14 in 2003. A great driver and teammate, Jeff finished 2nd in WESCO points picking up two victories. Unfortunately, trying to run two cars was to hard on Rick physically and they had cut back to one car. Jeff deserves a good ride and if the opportunity ever opened up at Leighty Racing he would be the first called.
